The Terrible Congrat   +  Versace

Milan Mens Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013, Day 1
The Spring/Summer fashion madness continues on from London Collections:Men at Milan Men's Fashion Week!
The fashion industry's best bloggers, editors, stylists, photographers, buyers and the like gathered to have a gaze into what designers think will hit big in the upcoming Spring/Summer season!

Day 1 of Milan Men's Fashion Week featured shows from Dolce & Gabbana, the Queen of Minimalism Jil Sander (who came back to the label since Raf Simons' departure), Les Hommes, John Varvatos, Neil Barrett and Costume National.

My favourite collections from the day were Versace, Corneliani and Burberry Prorsum.

First of all, I was invited by the esteemed label, Zegna, to watch the live stream of the fashion show for their Ermenegildo Zegna collection. Here are a few of the shots I took during the live stream:

Ermenegildo Zegna SS13

Ermenegildo Zegna's collection epitomizes the modern gentlemen - with a mix of classic printed statement shirting and pants and futuristic detailing (the mesh windbreakers, stiff silhouette leather jackets and scientist-like sunglasses). The colours are vivid yet not outrageous, bringing out the beauty of the garments and the striking affect of monochromatic outfits. The intimate show space gave both the live audience and us fashion bloggers who viewed the collection online, a closer look at the garments, which is sometimes not granted when attending a fashion show.

Versace SS13

It seems as though Donatella has now brought back Gianni's vision with the label, with this season's collections featuring a Gladiatorial theme, and maybe even a bit of 80s new wave and hip hop. The first thing that captured my attention was the fact that the models are muscular, which is further becoming a rarity in the men's fashion world, and it is good to see that Versace has opted for strong, masculine models for the runway. The abundance of metallic, shoulder pads, sneakers and monochromatic outfits symbolized how well and truly '80s statement fashion is making a comeback.

Burberry Prorsum SS13

Burberry Prorsum's Spring/Summer 2013 collection may be the label's most bold in recent times, with the collection affirming the fact that metallic may be continuing in Spring/Summer in 2013 from Fall/Winter 2012 as a major trend. The shimmery metallic pieces are muted down with the neutrals, creating an array of outrageously wearable ensembles. If you also notice, socks with sandals are prominent throughout the collection. Even though the socks/sandals combination is usually frowned upon, Burberry Prorsum knows how to pair them well as part of the look.

Corneliani SS13

Of course, the day is not complete without a show full of refreshing white and greys and minimalist design. Corneliani brought a breath of fresh air amongst the beautifully bold, presenting sheer sweaters, panelled jumpers, and textural suits. The pieces are individually highlighted in each look, with the monochromatic theme flowing throughout, and only with the slightest colour change.
